DIY: Dock Port Charging Issues

We often have customers come into our store experiencing dock port issues with their iPhones. Issues such as their phones not charging properly, not connecting to their charger, or not staying connected to the charger.  More times than not, if there’s no physical damage to the device, the culprit of the is in your pocket. It’s lint!

Lint builds up in our pockets and over time our charging ports get jammed with lint. Take a look inside yours and you may see what I mean. Fixing this issue is simple, something you can do at home in less than 5 minutes.

What you’ll need:

iPhone (this fix works for all iPhone models, with 30-pin and Lightning connectors)

Tweezers or toothpick

What to do:

First, turn your phone off. Look into the dock port and see if you can see debris or physical damage. If the pins seem bent or broken then it’s likely that’s what causing the issue. The dock needs to be replaced, and you should stop right here.

Look closely and you can see debris jammed in there

If you do notice debris, take your tweezers or toothpick and carefully pick it out. Be careful to not damage the pins.

Once all the debris is removed turn your phone back on and connect it to your charging cable to test it out. If all went well and lint was indeed the issue, your phone should be charging and connecting as it once was.
