TechRestore September 2018 News Roundup

Foxhollow Farms Fall Fest

Fall is in the air! Be sure to get out and enjoy that sweet, cool weather before it gets too chilly. If you’re local to Louisville, you already know there are so many ways to enjoy fall. No matter where you are, though, you’re sure to start seeing apples and pumpkins and hay bales soon!

Here are a few of the highlights from our September.

We started off right with our “First Responders on the First” shout out to the Louisville Division of Fire. They do a fantastic job and we’ve done some repairs for a few firefighters, too! Very cool. Remember, ALL First Responders and Military receive a 10% discount everyday at TechRestore. We couldn’t be more grateful for your service.

We also gave some love to our non-local customers and friends with a blog (which you saw, of course!) about all the benefits of shipping your repairs to us.  When we started out over 14 years ago in California, our repairs were primarily from out of town customers. We pioneered overnight service and fast shipping. We still receive a lot of repairs via UPS and other methods (and we’re still dazzling with our fast and trusted service).

If it was up to us, everyday would be National Back Up Your Data Day! (It really is a National day, March 31st.) What’s more heartbreaking than losing your data? Especially when you thought it was backed up or if your back up fails, too. While TechRestore does offer data recovery, the best, most economical solution is to have more than one backup. Call or come by and talk to one of our Apple Certified specialists to see which backup solution makes the most sense for you!

Jeff Jewell, President, cuts the ribbon!

We didn’t post about this on FaceBook, but Sunday, September 23rd marked the one year anniversary of our Official Grand Opening! We moved to Kentucky in July of 2017 and began doing repairs right away, but there was a lot going on behind the scenes. There was so much to clean up, build out, procure, negotiate and promote before the ribbon was cut! We’re still really happy with the result of that initial hard work and all the work we’ve done since then (and the plans we have for the future!). Most of all, we’re looking forward to continuing being a good neighbor and THE  go to Apple and Mac source for years to come.

Here are some pictures from our September 2017 Grand Opening.

Tech Travis helps a happy customer.

Yep, that’s the Oregon Trail game on the Apple IIe in the lobby. Come by and play while you wait (and inevitably die of dysentery! Did anyone survive that game?!).

A table from TechRestore in CA blends well with the locally sourced barrels and wood floors of our KY lobby.  A selection of Macs also on display.

Our B.A.Y.S. (big a** yellow sign), which we think can be seen from the International Space Station (hey, if they need a repair, we’re happy to oblige – as long as they pay the shipping!).

Here’s to many more years of making memories with our neighbors and friends, near and far! Happy fall, y’all!

Hardware Diagnosis is Now Free at TechRestore!

Due to the overwhelming response to our Back to School free diagnosis special, TechRestore is now adding  free hardware diagnosis  for laptops to our service offerings.  A rollback of $59.99!

You may be wondering: “Why?”    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Our experience has shown us that 90% of the time, we can pinpoint the most likely cause and offer a standard repair quote, without a lot of labor involved. In fact, we find that a lot of times, we can diagnose a laptop at the counter while it’s being checked in! We don’t want a diagnosis fee to keep anyone from coming in – thinking they have a very serious problem that can’t be fixed or will cost too much to fix.

The free diagnosis includes any labor up to opening the device. If we need to open it, that means that more labor intensive testing needs to be done. If the problem is serious enough to have to open it, you decide if you want to spend $59.99 to find out what needs to be fixed. (We will probably still have a ballpark idea of maximum repair cost.)

Once we provide a repair quote and it’s approved, the diagnosis fee is applied toward the repair, as always!

Some issues will require a more thorough examination. In the case of a logic board failure or liquid damage, some power supply issues or battery problems – we have to get in there to provide a detailed and accurate repair quote. In these cases, the $59.99 diagnostic fee will apply. If a repair is feasible and approved, the fee will be deducted from the repair cost. If the repair is not approved, the $59.99 covers our labor in the diagnosis.

In any case, you can rest assured that our experienced Apple Certified techs can handle whatever repair is indicated. You should also know that we will NEVER perform any paid service without your prior authorization. We all like surprises, but not THOSE kind!

Benefits for Our ‘Non-Local’ TechRestore Customers

We talk an awful lot about how awesome Louisville is (well, it IS!) and all the great things our walk in customers can enjoy. Beautiful store, convenient hours, Oregon Trail on the Apple II .. the list goes on and on.

We also have a national customer base that has been with us from the start and continues to grow year after year.

WE’RE HERE (AND THERE) TO HELP!

Most people (us included) hate to part with our Mac devices, even if they’re broken or acting up. We understand there are bigger things at stake than the inconvenience of time; the biggest concern is the integrity of the company doing the repair.

Here are some common obstacles people have shared (before they became our customers):

  • It’s expensive to ship and it takes a long time to get to Kentucky.
  • Is my data safe? (aka: Who are these techs?)
  • What if it’s weeks before I get my device back?
  • I don’t know how much it will cost – will I be overcharged?
  • Are the parts quality?
  • What if something goes wrong when I get it back?

Lost without my MacBook!

Now, we won’t claim that it will be less painful to put your MacBook, iPad or (heaven forbid!) iPhone in a box and hand it over to the UPS driver. We don’t like being away from our devices. It’s natural to worry and yes, you may feel a little lost.  Whether you use it for business or pleasure, most Americans are very attached.

Luckily, TechRestore was founded on the idea that we treat our customers the way we would want to be treated. Specifically, that means we cover all the bases, from setting up the repair, to shipping it, communicating along the way and getting it back fast. We also offer at least one year functional warranty on most repairs.

Here are a few ways we make it easy for you:

  • The most common repairs have a flat rate repair fee and can be ordered online or by phone.
  • Shipping options! Ship it yourself or take advantage of our low priced shipping – from UPS Ground to Next Day Air speeds. Kentucky is centrally located to more of the U.S. so most of our customers have actually found the shipping time shorter.
  • Our techs are Apple Certified (of course!) and have years of experience in the Apple ecosystem. Once it arrives, work begins within hours. We’ll be in touch if we need information or approval before we can move ahead and we’re always available to answer questions that come up for you.
  • Most parts are in stock or nearby. If something needs to be ordered, we’ll let you know when we expect it AND we trust the parts (hence, the minimum 1-year warranty!).
  • We’re here for you after the repair! We want to know that everything is working as expected. On the rare occasion it’s not, we work to make it right with the least inconvenience possible (we hate when stuff like that happens!).

Rest assured, folks. We are who we say we are. When our heads hit the pillow at night, we sleep soundly, knowing we have done our best, with integrity. If you have any doubts, look us up on Google, FaceBook, Yelp or the Better Business Bureau websites. Our customers love us because we treat every customer like family.

OH, and did we mention … customers who mail their devices in actually get something our local customers don’t – NINJAS! To keep your device safe as it travels back to you!

We hope if you’re having any doubts, this has helped you feel more at ease. While there’s nothing better than having a reliable, trusted partner like TechRestore right in your own town – there’s also no substitute for honest, quality work.

Do you know a Mac enthusiast who could use a trusted source for service? Do them (and us) a solid favor and forward this to them! Referrals are the best (and they’ll thank you later!).
